Video Description…

The Golden Era of the American Muscle Car was over by the mid-1970s. However it was the best of times for the Pontiac Trans Am. The 1976 Trans Am was the king of the performance cars back in 1976. Watch the video to find out why.

Now this is now one of my most favorite videos, as you know that this blog is about my own personal 1976 Trans Am. Ok Ok I know it has the 77-78 front end and interior. An not the beautiful front end of a 76. Hopefully I will eventually be able to put the original front end back on. And to be honest I always loved the interior of the ’76 as well so I will be getting the correct door panels and seats as well.

I remember way back in 1990 I was delivering auto parts for J & L auto parts in Kearny NJ and I came across this one stop and sitting in the warehouse covered in dust was a 1976 Trans Am Automatic Silver with Red interior and I just fell in love. After asking if it was for sale a week later I got the big fat no. Ok I was 19 and at that time those cars were all over the place.

This is not the exact car I saw all those years ago but very close to it

A few months later I ended up getting my first Trans Am a 78 4spd with T-Tops and yea I sorta kinda maybe got ripped off. But I was stubborn and wanted my 4 spd Trans Am no matter how much trouble the car was in the long run. But I always wanted that ’76. Just something about that front end and that rounded shaker scoop again I just really liked those..

So 30 years and 3 Trans Am’s and 1 Formula later I find a 76 Trans Am with a 77 78 front end and 78 interior on Craig’s list it was a 400 four speed and the car looked really good. I did not care I wanted that car it was 2017 and good examples with factory 4 speeds were hard to come by. I took a hit on the purchase price I may have even gotten ripped off. But I gotten my Trans Am the one I really wanted after 30 years.

They did not do a bad job but eventually I will be putting the 1976 Front end back on

Sure I’m still tracking down parts to return it back to her glory of the way she rolled off the assembly line in mid-1976. I am not really in a rush they did a good job not the best but that car takes me thousands of miles every year so I’m good for now.
