1976 Pontiac Trans Am Speed Burst..
This was the first month I got the car on the road. When I bought the car it was not running. Well just barely the car was sitting for 10 years. The carburetor was gummed up and flooding itself out. I had another rebuilt carburetor and drove around for a week tuning it. This day in particular I was driving around and decide to jump on it. I wound out first and went for it. Second came good and third gear came pretty quick. I ran outta room to nail fourth.
For a car that sat for 10 years it ran pretty good and did not miss a beat.. Now I do not know if the motor was ever rebuilt. But an Edelbrock intake. That was a common addition back in the day and that was it. At the time the car had a set of 3:73 gears in the rear. Now due to driveability I had the gears changed to 3:23. At the time I did the video it was pretty quick for a car that sat for 10 years.
It even was pretty hot outside. Around low 90s and pretty late in the day. Usually the temperature especially in South Florida makes a huge difference . Again this thing moved pretty good. Now the only thing is that you cannot shift too hard. When you do the gears grind that usually indicates the synchros are going. I had the fluid checked and changed so it can’t be that. The next step is to open her up and see how the insides look. There was no metal shavings in the fluid. So it might just me normal wear and tear and old age.
But all and all for 98,000 miles at the time. The car has run really well and still has some balls. And that equals fun !
